Covid-19 revealed stark health inequalities along ethnic lines, with minority ethnic groups at greater risk of death and hospitalization. Specific concerns include disparities faced by Gypsy and Traveller young people and Black young people, with variations in obesity, mental health, vaccinations, hospital admissions, and experiences of healthcare. Data highlights that Black young people are more likely to be classified as obese, detained under the Mental Health Act, and have lower vaccination rates. They also have higher rates of hospital attendance and are overrepresented in the criminal justice system.
