Summary

Euro NCAP allows its star rating to be applied to variants of a tested vehicle if they have an unladen kerb mass within +/- 150kg, identical or almost identical structure, and the same or greater level of safety equipment. Manufacturers can submit crash test data for evaluation, and Euro NCAP will maintain a database of applicable variants. Corporate twins, vehicles identical apart from name and branding, can also share a star rating if they meet certain conditions, including having the same base safety specification and best-selling variant. The star rating can be used for advertising, but reference must be made to the tested variant or rated twin model variant. Euro NCAP started receiving applications immediately.
