With the change in law, there will be no further AWAs within Telstra, and staff will have a real choice to move off AWAs, combining the best bits with the strong conditions of the EBA.
Many Telstra workers are employed on AWA individual contracts, often with little or no real choice but to sign, but Labor has abolished AWAs, and the union-negotiated Enterprise Agreement (EA) will be the new safety net for all staff.
The EA will set the benchmark for pay and conditions, and staff can retain and improve things they like in their AWA, with the opportunity to have their input into the EA.
The Telstra unions have used EA discussions to tell management that employees must be able to move off AWAs without going backwards in pay and conditions, and that Telstra should respect the right of AWA employees who choose to move off their AWA prior to the final expiry date.
Staff are encouraged to have their say and email their views to [email protected], and stay tuned for future bulletins as negotiations continue.
