The toll road disability discount system in Japan has been revised, effective March 27, 2023. Key changes include:

1. Relaxation of the one-person, one-vehicle requirement: Previously, only one vehicle per person with a disability could be registered for the discount. Now, vehicles not registered in advance, such as rental cars, borrowed cars, or taxis (for severely disabled individuals), are also eligible for the discount.
2. Introduction of online application: An online system has been introduced for applying for the disability discount, making it more convenient for applicants. The online application requires a My Number card and registration on the "My Portal" website.

Eligibility:

Individuals with physical disabilities who hold a disability certificate
Severely disabled individuals who hold a disability certificate or a rehabilitation certificate
Vehicles registered in advance (one vehicle per person with a disability)
Non-registered vehicles, such as rental cars, borrowed cars, or taxis (for severely disabled individuals)

Application methods:

Online application (for ETC users)
Submission of required documents to the welfare office
ETC users can apply online and receive a discount sticker to be attached to their disability certificate

Discount details:

50% discount on toll road fees
Eligible vehicles: passenger cars, trucks, special-purpose vehicles, and two-wheeled vehicles (excluding business-use vehicles)
Eligible roads: toll roads, including the Miura Peninsula Road, Manazuru Road, and Ayase New Road.
