What is it?

The What Works Centre for Children’s Social Care (WWCSC) is a new, independent organization funded by the Department for Education (DfE) to drive evidence-based innovation in England's children's social care sector. It aims to improve outcomes for vulnerable children and families through rigorous research and practical solutions.

Role:

They are seeking a Research Assistant to support their ambitious research program, focusing on:

Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs): Evaluating interventions aimed at enhancing the wellbeing of social workers and other professionals.
System-level evaluations: Assessing the impact of whole system changes implemented by local authorities.
Machine learning: Exploring data to identify trends and patterns in children's social care.

Responsibilities:

Liaising with project partners (local authorities, academics)
Managing data collection processes
Compiling trial materials
Facilitating focus groups or interviews (qualitative tasks)
Supporting application assessment for funding opportunities

Requirements:

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Autonomy and motivation to work independently.
Experience in research (preferably social science) is desirable.
Understanding of children's social care, grant funding processes, and evaluation methodologies is a plus.

Terms:

Full-time, fixed-term contract (September 2019 - March 31, 2020) with possibility of transition to permanent role.
Location: Central London
Salary: c. £25K pa dependent on experience plus Nesta benefits package.
