Summary

Almost half of men in rural Colombia (47%) believe women need male protection to survive, compared to 28% of rural women, 24% of urban men, and 8% of urban women. Men are more likely to justify violence to protect the community (18%) or achieve political change (26%) than women (12% and 17%, respectively). Additionally, 51% of men and 69% of women fear what ex-combatants might do in the future. These findings highlight the need to address gender stereotypes and inequalities in Colombia's peacebuilding efforts.
