Summary

The Utah Municipal Code is enacted, to be known as the "Utah Municipal Code", with the intent to repeal specific provisions of Utah law and review, modernize, and incorporate other provisions in later sessions. The code becomes effective July 1, 1977, and its provisions are to be liberally construed. Definitions are provided for terms such as "city", "contiguous", "governing body", "municipal", "municipality", "peninsula", "person", "provisions of law", "recorder", "town", and "unincorporated". The code applies to all municipalities in Utah, except as otherwise specifically excepted, and does not affect property or contract rights, or other actions existing in favor of or against any municipality. The code also provides for cumulative powers, saving clauses, and severability. Certain titles, chapters, and sections are repealed, except as provided in Section 10-1-115.
