Fruit trees are expected to be damaged by the widespread occurrence of the Japanese oak leaf-rolling sawyer beetle (Charidotella sexpunctata). Be careful of the arrival in the orchard.
[Release content]
Crop name: Fruit trees (peaches, persimmons, apples, grapes, etc.)
Insect name: Japanese oak leaf-rolling sawyer beetle
Occurrence quantity: Many
Occurrence area: Entire prefecture
[Release basis]
β In February, a survey of the overwintering of adult Japanese oak leaf-rolling sawyer beetles at 42 locations in the prefecture showed that the overwintering number was slightly higher than the average (2.7 individuals, average 2.2 individuals), and the overwintering site rate was slightly higher than the average (67%, average 40%).
β‘ As of the end of May, the number of Japanese oak leaf-rolling sawyer beetles in the cherry blossoms in Kasama City was higher than the average (Figure 1).
β’ As of the end of May, the damage rate of peaches in the prefecture's peach cultivation fields (0.03%, average 0.01%) was higher than the average, and the occurrence rate of the damage site (10%, average 1%) was higher than the average.
β£ As of the fifth half of May, the number of Japanese oak leaf-rolling sawyer beetles attracted to the warning light installed in the fruit tree garden in Kasumigaura City was higher than the average, and the attraction period was slightly earlier (Figure 2).

[Prevention and control to be noted]
β The percentage of cherry blossoms with Japanese oak leaf-rolling sawyer beetle bites in Kasama City was 87% at the end of May (average 64%), indicating that there is a possibility of flying into the fruit tree garden in search of food.
β‘ The multi-purpose disaster prevention net (6mm mesh or 9mm cross mesh, etc.) is effective in preventing the invasion of Japanese oak leaf-rolling sawyer beetles into the garden and reducing damage.
β’ Japanese oak leaf-rolling sawyer beetles are active at high night temperatures, so be careful of their arrival in the fruit tree garden. If Japanese oak leaf-rolling sawyer beetles are confirmed in the garden, perform control measures in the early morning when their activity is sluggish, referring to Table 1.
β£ Regardless of the type of insecticide (Table 1), direct contact with the insecticide is effective in killing the insect. The duration of the insecticidal effect is 5-10 days for neonicotinoid-type insecticides and pyrethroid-type insecticides, and 2-3 days for organophosphorus-type insecticides.
β€ Pyrethroid-type insecticides are highly effective against Japanese oak leaf-rolling sawyer beetles, but also have a significant impact on natural enemies, which may lead to an increase in the occurrence of other pests such as spider mites and fruit flies.

Note)
β: Registered for the crop.
Smiton water-soluble 40 is not registered for peaches (Nashi) due to the risk of pesticide damage.
In the case of grapes, the cultivation situation may cause fruit pulp separation or staining, so be sure to check the usage notes and usage method on the pesticide label.
When applying insecticides, be sure to check the pesticide label and follow the usage guidelines, and also pay attention to drift (drift) to the surrounding area.
