Summary

Der Weltagrarbericht (IAASTD) von 2008 fordert eine radikale Wende in der Agrarpolitik und -forschung, da die Landwirtschaft in ihrer heutigen Form keine Zukunft hat, wenn es um die Hungerbekämpfung, den Klimaschutz und die Verhinderung sozialer und ökologischer Katastrophen geht. Der Bericht, der von der Weltbank initiiert und von den Vereinten Nationen in Auftrag gegeben wurde, kam zu dem Ergebnis, dass die Steigerung von Ertrag und Produktion nicht der Schlüssel zur Bekämpfung von Hunger und Armut ist, sondern dass eine multifunktionale Landwirtschaft, die auch soziale und ökologische Aspekte berücksichtigt, notwendig ist. Der Bericht wurde von über 60 Staaten unterzeichnet, Deutschland jedoch nicht. Die USA, Kanada und Australien stimmten dem Bericht nicht zu.
