Summary

The Working Hours Act regulates the number of hours an employee can work per day and week, and when they are entitled to breaks and rest. Employees can work a maximum of 12 hours per shift and 60 hours per week, with an average of 55 hours per week over a 4-week period and 48 hours per week over a 16-week period. Employees must have 11 consecutive hours of non-work time after a working day, and 36 consecutive hours of non-work time after a 5-day work week. Breaks are required after 5 ½ hours of work, with at least 30 minutes of break time, and after 10 hours of work, with at least 45 minutes of break time. Working on Sundays is not required, unless agreed upon by the employer and employee, and employees must have at least 13 free Sundays per year.
