The Greek Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Social Solidarity issued a circular (No. 29) on June 30, 2017, regarding the recognition of insurance periods and purchased periods under the provisions of Article 34 of Law 4387/2016. The circular clarifies the following:

1. Insurance period in EFKA (the Greek social security institution): The insurance period includes the actual insurance period, the recognized period of contributory service for public servants, and the fictitious insurance periods provided by law.
2. Recognized - fictitious periods in EFKA: The existing provisions that determine which periods are considered fictitious insurance periods remain unchanged, but there is a change in the way the insurance premium for recognizing these periods is calculated.
3. Field of application: The right to recognize fictitious insurance periods is maintained, with some exceptions, such as the abolition of the right to recognize military service for pensioners.
4. Commencement of new provisions: The provisions have been in effect since May 13, 2016, and applications for recognition of fictitious periods submitted before that date will be treated according to the previous provisions.
5. Calculation of purchase contribution for employees: The recognition of fictitious periods for employees is made with the payment of the total contributions for each month of recognized insurance period, at the rate in effect at the time of the application for purchase.
