Summary

The Japanese government has released the results of additional measurements of radioactive strontium (Sr-90) in sediment from public water areas, including rivers, lakes, and coastal areas, in various prefectures. The measurements were taken from October to December 2012. The results show that the levels of Sr-90 in the sediment are within the range of values observed nationwide before the accident, except for some areas within the evacuation zone. The highest concentration of Sr-90 was 93 Bq/kg (dry weight) in a sediment sample from a lake in Fukushima Prefecture.
