Summary

The Research Institute for High Life conducted a study on the purchasing behavior of seniors (70 years old and above) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The study found that:

1. The number of seniors visiting food supermarkets increased after February, especially after the government's request for temporary school closures on February 27.
2. The time of day for seniors' visits to supermarkets did not change significantly, with a slight increase in morning visits.
3. Seniors purchased more frozen foods, uruchi rice, pasta sauce, and other items that can be stored for a long time, as well as instant noodles and cup noodles, which may indicate stockpiling behavior.

The study used data from Shopper Insight, a company that tracks purchasing behavior, and analyzed the data from February 2019 to February 2020. The results suggest that seniors may have been preparing for the pandemic by stockpiling food and other essentials.
