Summary

A randomized, controlled multicenter study evaluated the effectiveness of focused extracorporeal shock wave therapy in treating chronic plantar fasciitis. 250 subjects were randomized to receive either focused extracorporeal shock wave therapy or a placebo intervention. Results showed a significant difference in the reduction of heel pain in the extracorporeal shock wave therapy group (69.2%) compared to the placebo therapy group (34.5%). The study concluded that focused extracorporeal shock wave therapy is effective in relieving chronic heel pain diagnosed as plantar fasciitis, with success rates between 50% and 65%.
