Community Based Treatment refers to an integrated model of treatment for people affected by drug use and dependence, providing a continuum of care from outreach to aftercare, involving coordination of health, social, and non-specialist services, with strong support for patients' families and communities. Key characteristics include being located in the community, community empowerment, bio-psycho-social approach, primarily outpatient setting, continuum of care, and integrated into community health and social services. The model has several advantages, including facilitating patients' access to treatment, being affordable, fostering patients' independence, and reducing stigma. The service delivery model includes community organizations, primary health services, and expert medical and psychiatric diagnosis and services, with three major components: community organizations, health centers, and social welfare agencies. Nine principles guide community-based treatment, including availability and accessibility, screening and assessment, evidence-informed treatment, human rights, and community involvement. Effective treatment services are easily available, voluntary, unconditional, and diversified, addressing individual needs and offering long-term approaches.
