ICAO standards require airlines to have accessible medical supplies and trained cabin crew in first aid. Airlines may provide additional services depending on their size and operations.

Recommendations for allergen-sensitive passengers include:
- Contacting their physician before travel to discuss risks and obtain prescribed medication and an emergency plan
- Carrying medication and emergency plans in carry-on baggage
- Informing airlines about allergies when making reservations
- Asking about airline policies on allergen-sensitive customers
- Considering travel insurance that covers anaphylaxis or severe allergic reactions
- Arriving early at the airport to re-confirm requests
- Informing nearby passengers and cabin crew about severe allergies
- Bringing own food on board, if possible, and checking with airlines for any restrictions.
