Summary

COVID-19 is spread through person-to-person contact, airborne droplets, and touching contaminated surfaces. Pregnant women may be at greater risk for severe illness due to immunologic and physiologic changes. Limited data suggest that COVID-19 infection in pregnancy may be associated with severe infection and adverse neonatal outcomes, but current data are reassuring. Testing is recommended for symptomatic patients with epidemiologic risk factors, and clinicians should use clinical judgment in deciding who to test. There is no evidence of vertical transmission of COVID-19, and it is unclear if COVID-19 increases the risk of preterm birth.
