Summary

Healthwatch worked with 8 students from Henry Tynedale School, a special school for children with complex learning difficulties, to raise awareness of health services and access. The students identified dentists and hospitals as services where they felt most anxious, and suggested measures to reduce stress, such as playing with sensory toys, listening to relaxing music, and having a quiet room to wait in. The project also explored the use of hospital passports, which include information on a child's sensory needs and other difficulties, and found that 93% of parents-carers did not have one, but 98% thought it would be beneficial after being shown an example.
