Summary

A mass drug administration (MDA) program was conducted at MES Medical College in Kerala, India, to eliminate filariasis. The program, which included awareness campaigns and drug administration, achieved a coverage rate of 84.9% and a compliance rate of 80.3% among staff and students. The highest compliance and coverage were among nursing students. The main reason for non-compliance was fear of side effects from the drugs DEC + Albendazole. The study suggests that institutional involvement in MDA programs can improve coverage and compliance, and that awareness campaigns can increase drug consumption.
