Summary

Parents are advised to use their judgment when deciding if their child is fit to attend school, with guidance provided for various illnesses. For mild headaches, earaches, and stomach aches, children can attend school after taking paracetamol and drinking plenty of fluids. High temperatures, coughs, and colds are also manageable with medication and fluids, but persistent symptoms require medical attention. Children with flu, swine flu, diarrhea, vomiting, measles, chickenpox, and German measles should be kept off school for specified periods. The school may contact parents to collect their child if they display signs of illness and may request medical evidence to support absences. Regular attendance is emphasized, as 90% attendance over a school year translates to missing half a day a week, and over 5 years, half a year of school.
