Treatment of established PHN involves simple analgesics, tricyclic antidepressants, and anticonvulsants. Licensed drugs for PHN include gabapentin, pregabalin, capsaicin 0.075%, Qutenza, and 5% lidocaine plasters. The choice of treatment depends on patient factors, phase of illness, and local prescribing preference.
