Summary

Sri Lanka has 8.83 million women at risk of cervical cancer, with 1,407 diagnosed and 780 dying annually. Cervical cancer ranks 2nd among women and 4th among 15-44 year olds. HPV 16/18 infection is estimated to affect 4.4% of women in Southern Asia. Crude incidence rates of HPV-related cancers in Sri Lanka are: cervical cancer (12.6), anal cancer (0.71 in men, 0.45 in women), vulva cancer (0.48), vaginal cancer (0.57), penile cancer (1.11), oropharyngeal cancer (3.69 in men, 0.34 in women), oral cavity cancer (21.4 in men, 5.54 in women), and laryngeal cancer (7.08 in men, 0.87 in women). HPV vaccination was introduced in 2017 for females, with 71% coverage for the first dose and 46% for the last dose. Cervical screening is recommended, with 24% of women screened in the last 5 years.
