Summary

Anxiety disorders, including panic attacks, social anxiety disorder, and generalized anxiety disorder, are significant mental health issues with high medical costs. Agaricus blazei Murill (AbM), a mushroom with immune-modulating and antimicrobial effects, has been traditionally used to treat various health conditions. This study evaluated the anxiolytic effect of AbM on mice using the Elevated Plus Maze test, open field test, and motor co-ordination test by rotarod. The results showed that oral administration of hydro-alcoholic extract of AbM significantly elevated the percentage of open arm entries and time spent in the open arm, indicating an anxiolytic effect. The study concludes that AbM can be a new therapeutic agent to treat anxiety.
