Summary

The 17th week of 2004 saw an increase in reported cases of pharyngoconjunctival fever, A group beta-hemolytic streptococcal pharyngitis, and rubella, compared to the same period in the previous five years. Additionally, there were reports of adenovirus, influenza virus, and rotavirus infections. The number of reported cases of rubella was higher than usual, with 203 cases reported in the 17th week, and a total of 1,899 cases reported from the beginning of the year. Three cases of congenital rubella syndrome were also reported. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare and the National Institute of Infectious Diseases are monitoring the situation and urging people to take precautions to prevent the spread of these diseases.
