Summary

Julie Sawchuk, 41, was training for a triathlon when a car hit her while riding her bike, causing a spinal cord injury at T4, seven broken ribs, and other injuries. She was taken to the hospital, stabilized, and transported to the trauma unit at London's Victoria Hospital, where she underwent surgery to repair the damage. After six days in critical care and a week on the trauma unit, Julie was transferred to Parkwood Institute, a rehabilitation hospital, where she began her recovery journey with a team of therapists and medical professionals. She had no movement below her chest and experienced nerve pain, but was determined to recover and regain her independence.
