Summary

A study compared surgical techniques for pterygium using mitomycin-C or 5-fluorouracil as adjuncts. 98 eyes were divided into 8 groups based on treatment protocol, with varying concentrations of mitomycin-C or 5-fluorouracil and use of conjunctival autograft. The success rate was highest (100%) in the group with mitomycin-C (0.04%) and conjunctival autograft, and lowest (72.73%) in the group with 5-fluorouracil (10mg/ml) and bare sclera. Complications, including graft retraction and dry eye, were more common in groups with conjunctival autograft. The study found no significant difference between low and high concentration groups or between mitomycin-C and 5-fluorouracil groups.
