Summary

Participating observers in a medical practice are not required to be registered with CPSA, but must be supervised by a physician and obtain patient consent to be present and access confidential information. Observers may observe, interview patients, perform physical examinations with supervision, and assist with medical procedures, but cannot receive remuneration, make entries on medical records, give medical advice, prescribe treatment, or perform medical procedures without supervision. Supervising physicians must be present, obtain patient consent, and advise facilities of the observer's status and activities. The duration of the observation/experience is at the discretion of the supervising physician.
