Summary

Bone metastases are a frequent complication of renal cancer, with breast and prostate cancer being the most common carcinomas to develop bone metastases. The decalcification process is necessary to study bone pathology, but it can be labor-intensive and time-consuming. A study of 86 bone specimens with metastatic tumors from 83 patients found that the most common primary sites were breast, lung, kidney, and prostate. The decalcification process used in the study involved formalin fixation, decalcification with Nitrical solution, and washing with running tap water. The results showed that the histologic quality and integrity of immunohistochemical staining of the bone specimens with metastatic tumors were excellent.
