Summary

Adenotonsilitis kronik merupakan problem kesehatan dunia dengan prevalensi 7 per 1000 penduduk di Amerika Serikat, 11,7% anak di Norwegia, dan 12,1% anak di Turki. Di Indonesia, 6,75% pasien tonsilitis kronik didapatkan di RSUP Dr. Hasan Sadikin Bandung. Tonsilitis kronik pada anak hampir selalu terjadi bersama adenoiditis kronik karena adenoid dan tonsil merupakan jaringan limfoid yang saling berhubungan. Gejala adenotonsilitis kronik meliputi anak sering panas, sakit kepala, lesu, mudah ngantuk, tenggorok terasa mengganjal, dan nafas bau. Pemeriksaan yang harus dilakukan adalah pemeriksaan tonsil dan adenoid, serta rinoskopi anterior dan posterior. Terapi yang umum dilakukan adalah adenotonsilektomi, dan pemberian antibiotik golongan penisilin jika terjadi eksaserbasi akut. Adenoidektomi efektif menurunkan insidensi otitis media efusi dan sinusitis, serta memperbaiki fungsi tuba. Indikasi adenoidektomi meliputi adenoid obstruktif, infeksi, dan neoplasia.
