Despite receiving information on psychiatric disorders during their studies, medical students often exhibit stigmatizing attitudes towards patients with mental illnesses, including depression. Research has shown that medical students' stigmatizing attitudes can be related to their subsequent views as physicians, affecting the quality of care provided to patients and leading to self-stigmatization. Studies have found that medical students often view patients with depression as unpredictable, less capable of conversation, and less able to "take care of themselves." The level of stigmatization can vary depending on factors such as personal experience with mental illness, gender, and level of education. Interventions aimed at reducing stigmatization among medical students are crucial to improve the quality of care provided to patients with mental illnesses.
