Summary

Rotavirus vaccination was introduced in Japan in 2011, and the vaccination rate has been increasing since then. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of rotavirus vaccination in preventing severe rotavirus gastroenteritis in children. The study found that the number of hospitalizations due to rotavirus gastroenteritis decreased significantly after the introduction of the vaccine, and the severity of the disease also decreased. The study suggests that further increase in vaccination rate could lead to a decrease in the number of hospitalizations due to rotavirus gastroenteritis in all age groups.
