Summary

Uma menina de 11 anos apresentou febre por 4 dias, dor na região lombar esquerda e sensibilidade à pressão na região costo-vertebral. A ultrassonografia abdominal revelou um espaço eco-livre (60 mm x 44 mm) no rim esquerdo, e a tomografia computadorizada abdominal com contraste mostrou um abscesso renal. A terapia antimicrobiana foi iniciada após a drenagem percutânea do abscesso guiada por tomografia computadorizada. Streptococcus intermedius foi isolado da cultura do aspirado do abscesso. S. intermedius é uma bactéria que apresenta na flora oral humana e, diferente de outras estreptococais orais, é caracterizada por formar abscessos no cérebro e fígado. Não há relatos anteriores de abscesso renal causado por S. intermedius.
