Summary

The study analyzed the associations between therapists' and patients' assessments of their relationship, and the relationship between personality traits of therapists and patients and their assessments of the relationship. Results showed that therapists' sense of professionalism was associated with patients' acceptance, and that extroversion and openness in therapists were associated with a more positive attitude towards patients. Conscientiousness in patients was associated with less rejection of therapists, while neuroticism in patients was associated with greater uncertainty in the relationship. The study concluded that the therapeutic relationship is influenced by the personality traits of both therapists and patients, and that a positive relationship is more likely when the patient is younger and the therapist is older and female.
