Summary

Thyroid disorders are associated with menstrual irregularities and infertility, with hypothyroidism linked to abnormal sexual development, menstrual irregularities, and infertility. A study of 84 women in the reproductive age group (15-45 years) found a strong correlation between thyroid dysfunction and menstrual disorders. The study divided patients into two groups: those with menstrual disorders (Group I) and those without (Group II). Results showed that 58% of Group I and 78% of Group II were euthyroid, while 18% of Group I and 10% of Group II had subclinical hypothyroidism. Menstrual disorders included amenorrhea, hypo/oligomenorrhea, metrorrhagia, menorrhagia, and polymenorrhea, with varying degrees of thyroid dysfunction. The study concludes that there is a significant correlation between thyroid dysfunction and menstrual disorders.
