Summary

Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women, accounting for more than 1 in 10 new cancer diagnoses every year, and is the second most common cause of death from cancer among women worldwide. Various genes are involved in the cause of breast cancer, including BRCA1/2, HER2, EGFR, c-Myc, and Ras. Mutations and abnormal amplification of these genes play key roles in tumor initiation and growth. BRCA1/2 mutations are inherited in an autosomal dominant manner and increase the risk of breast cancer, with approximately 20-25% of hereditary breast cancers and 5-10% of all breast cancers caused by these mutations. Other genes, such as HER2, EGFR, c-Myc, and Ras, are also involved in breast cancer development and progression. Despite progress in breast cancer prevention, there is still a lack of effective cures against triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), which tends to have a higher relapse risk and is more aggressive than other subtypes.
