Summary

Vitamin D levels were found to be significantly lower in patients with depressive disorders and anxiety disorders compared to healthy controls, with calcidiol concentrations indicating a pathophysiological status in patients, while controls had normal range results (30-40 ng/ml). The study consisted of 20 women and 20 men with symptoms of depression, 20 women and 20 men with anxiety disorders, and healthy controls, with diagnosis confirmed using the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview. Calcidiol levels were detected by the ECLIA method and intact parathormone serum levels were detected by heterogeneous electrochemiluminescent immunoassay. The results showed that groups of patients and controls did not differ in age, and serum levels of PTH were within the normal interval without significant changes. The study concludes that affective disorders are associated with significantly lower levels of calcidiol, both for men and women.
