The study evaluated the correlation between left ventricular diastolic function and left ventricular geometry in 181 patients with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) using echocardiography. Patients were divided into four groups: normal geometry, concentric remodelling, eccentric hypertrophy, and concentric hypertrophy. The results showed that left ventricular diastolic dysfunction was worst in the concentric hypertrophy group, and there was a significant correlation between diastolic function and left ventricular geometry. The E/Em ratio was positively correlated with left ventricular mass index (LVMI) and relative wall thickness (RWT), while the Em/Am ratio was negatively correlated with LVMI and RWT. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that LVMI and RWT had an influence on Em/Am and E/Em. The study concluded that there is a correlation between left ventricular diastolic dysfunction and changes in cardiac geometry in patients with OSAS.
