The University of Thessaly's Rectorate, following the Joint Ministerial Decision no. 115744/Ζ1/4.9.2020, has established a protocol for managing suspected or confirmed COVID-19 cases. The protocol includes the following measures:

All students and staff must wear masks correctly (covering nose and mouth) in all indoor areas of the university without exception.
In outdoor areas, masks must be worn if a distance of at least 2 meters cannot be maintained.
Symptoms compatible with COVID-19 include fever, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, chills, muscle pain, headache, gastrointestinal disorders, and sudden loss of taste or smell.
Classification of cases: suspected case (patient who meets clinical criteria), probable case (patient who meets clinical criteria and had close contact with a confirmed case), and confirmed case (patient who meets laboratory criteria).
Close contact is defined as having been within 1.5 meters of a confirmed case for at least 15 minutes without a mask, having had direct physical contact, or having been in a closed space with a confirmed case for more than 15 minutes.
If a student or staff member shows symptoms compatible with COVID-19, they must leave the university premises immediately, informing their department and the COVID-19 responsible person, and go to a hospital for a molecular test.
If the test result is positive, the individual must inform the COVID-19 responsible person, who will then inform the University's COVID-19 Committee to conduct an epidemiological investigation and contact tracing.
The Committee, in collaboration with the National Public Health Organization (EODY), will assess the risk and decide on preventive measures, which may include closing classrooms, disinfecting areas, mandatory molecular testing for contacts, and restricting contacts to their homes.
* If a student or staff member has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or has had high-risk exposure to a confirmed case, they can return to the university after a certain period, as specified by the protocol.
