The 1st Breakfast Meeting Report

On October 6th (Thursday), the 1st Breakfast Meeting was held. Representative Director Kurokawa Kiyoshi spoke on the theme "National Medical Care: What are the Challenges?" for about an hour, and then answered questions from the participants. Although the time was short, the meeting was held in a very cozy atmosphere. Thank you to all the participants.

In summary, the medical environment is changing. When the national health insurance system was introduced, Japan was poor and dependent on primary industries, and the main causes of death were cerebrovascular diseases and tuberculosis. Now, with industrialization and urbanization, life has become more affluent, and medical technology has advanced, but the amount of exercise has decreased, and lifestyle-related diseases are prevalent.

In this changing medical environment, it may be time to re-examine medical policies. Currently, what is the problem? The medical expenses are said to be 32 trillion yen, but who pays and who receives what benefits? This discussion needs to be deepened. Taxpayers, namely citizens, must speak out about how to use their money.

However, looking at the current situation, many diseases have personal causes, such as lifestyle-related diseases and smoking problems. Doesn't this mean that there is a reliance on the nation?

The utilization of such breakfast meetings and the need for enlightenment and awareness activities are also being felt.

In the discussion, questions from participants led to discussions on mixed medical treatment, regional medical care, the role of university hospitals, and the American medical system.
