Summary

St. Clement Kilisesi, Ankara'nın kaybolan kültür varlıklarından biri olup, Bizans Ankarası'nın tarihi çerçevesi içerisinde topoğrafya, mimarlık ve sanat tarihi açısından yeniden değerlendirilmeye çalışılmaktadır. Kilise, 1960'ların başından önce büyük ölçüde kaybolmuş olup, günümüze yalnızca birkaç duvar kalıntısı ve kilisenin zemin katına ait bir kemer ayağı kalmıştır. Ankara, Geç Antik dönemde Doğu Roma İmparatorluğu içerisindeki önemini, askeri ve ticari yolların keşiştiği bir konumda bulunması ile yakından ilintilidir. Ancyra, Dördüncü Yüzyılda Galatia (Prima) eyaletinin başpiskoposluk merkezi olup, burada üç kilise konseyinin toplandığı bilinmektedir.
