Summary

Excavations at Seaﬁeld West, Inverness, revealed a Bronze Age cemetery featuring a ring-ditch enclosing two adjacent graves with wooden coffins, one boat-shaped and the other plank-built, likely containing crouched inhumation burials. Key artifacts include a 'Butterwick' type bronze dagger (3385±45 bp) and an 'Irish Bowl' Food Vessel (c. 2000 bc), indicating links with Ireland. Other features within the ring-ditch are a short stone cist, a pit with cremated remains and barbed-and-tanged arrowheads, and three pits, one possibly an inhumation grave. Outside the ring-ditch, a second short stone cist with a Beaker and a cluster of truncated pit graves containing cremated bone and pyre debris were found. The cemetery is near the multi-phase site at Stoneyﬁeld, Raigmore, with residual Mesolithic activity evidence.
