Summary

The Weld-Blundell Collection, vol. II, contains historical inscriptions, including the Chronological Prism, which provides reason for a separate volume. The publication of this inscription is imperative as it constitutes the most important historical document of its kind. The collection includes the building inscriptions of Kish, but due to circumstances, many historical texts are omitted and left for a future volume. The dates given for ancient Sumer and Accad rest upon the point from which calculations begin, and the year 2225 is accepted for the beginning of the reign of Sumu-abu. The astronomical calculations of Father Kugler, based on a tablet of observations of Venus, support this date, and any assigned date must satisfy these calculations. The calculation resulted in fixing the beginning of the reign of Ammizaduga in 1977 and the beginning of the first dynasty in 2225.
