Summary

Color Photographs, is a collection of color and hand-colored photographs, job envelopes, order forms, correspondence, and other materials from the Scurlock Studio in Washington, D.C. The studio, which operated from 1911 to 1994, was run by two generations of photographers: Addison N. Scurlock and his sons George H. and Robert S. The collection is arranged into four subseries: Clients, Subjects, Weddings, and Hand-colored photographs, and includes photographs of African American entertainers, politicians, and everyday people, as well as portraits and commercial photography. The collection is open for research, but gloves must be worn when handling unprotected photographs and negatives, and special arrangements are required to view negatives due to cold storage.
