Коллективная монография «Эстонский фольклор» - первая книга на русском языке,
обстоятельно знакомящая читателей с народно-поэтическим творчеством эстонского
народа. Книга открывается введением, в котором кратко излагается этническая история
эстонцев, дается характеристика их языка и древних народных верований. Авторы
дают четкое определение фольклора, показывают условия и формы его бытования,
характеризуют народно-поэтические жанры. В книге рассматривается процесс
становления и развития эстонской фольклористики, уделяется внимание планомерному
собиранию произведений фольклора, их систематизации и хранению в архивах. В
результате в фольклорных фондах Эстонии хранится свыше 1 миллиона страниц
записей устной народной поэзии.
