Summary

The FWBO is establishing a centre in Poona, India, to provide spiritual guidance and direction to Buddhists in Maharashtra State, where millions of people converted to Buddhism from Hinduism under Dr B.R. Ambedkar's leadership but lack spiritual guidance. The centre will teach meditation and give the Dharma, and its establishment is seen as a continuation of Dr Ambedkar's work and the Ven. Sangharakshita's efforts to revive Buddhism in India. The FWBO Newsletter reports on the plans and the background to the conversion of Dr Ambedkar and his followers, who sought to escape the injustices of the Hindu caste system.
