Summary

Im Jahr 1865 ersuchten zwei Pharmazeuten um eine Promotion in Abwesenheit an der Universität Marburg. Ihre Dissertationen wurden jedoch schnell als Plagiate entlarvt. Der erste Antrag stammte von Wenzel Hildwein aus Prag, dessen Arbeit als Kopie einer 1843 in Halle gedruckten Inaugural-Dissertation von Marquidorf identifiziert wurde. Der zweite Antrag wurde von einem anderen Pharmazeuten eingereicht, dessen Arbeit ebenfalls als Plagiat entlarvt wurde. Die Marburger Professoren entschieden sich, die beiden Anträge öffentlich zurückzuweisen und die Plagiate in der überregionalen Tages- und Fachpresse anzuprangern. Dieser Fall ist auch heute noch in der Literatur zu Wissenschafts-Plagiaten und im World Wide Web zu finden. Die Geschichte dieses Plagiatsfalls wird mit aktuellen Fällen von Plagiaten in der Wissenschaft verglichen, wie dem Fall von Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg.
