Wir leben in einer Welt, in der wir oft zwischen Traumwelt und realer Welt schwanken, uns selbst und unsere Beziehungen nicht richtig einschätzen und der Wahrheit aus dem Weg gehen. Als Christen sind wir diesem Zeitgeist ausgesetzt, fühlen uns oft schwach, überfordert und in Versuchung. Paulus schrieb den Brief an die Kolosser, um sie vor einer religiösen Strömung zu warnen, die Jesus Christus aus dem Mittelpunkt der Aufmerksamkeit verdrängte. Er betonte, dass Christen in Jesus alles haben, um ein erfülltes Leben zu führen, und dass Jesus allein genügt. Paulus erinnerte die Kolosser daran, dass Gott sie aus der Macht der Finsternis gerettet und in das Reich des Sohnes seiner Liebe versetzt hat, wo sie Erlösung und Vergebung der Sünden erfahren haben. Diese Rettung ist ausschließlich auf Gottes Eingreifen zurückzuführen und beinhaltet sowohl die Befreiung von der Sklaverei der Sünde als auch die Vergebung der Schuld.
