Am 27. und 28. Mai 2010 fand am Deutschen Historischen Institut in Rom die Tagung "Konversionsszenarien in Rom in der Frühen Neuzeit" statt, die den Austausch deutscher und italienischer Forschungsergebnisse ermöglichen und die vielfältigen Untersuchungsebenen der Konversionsthematik in den Fokus nehmen sollte. Die Tagung konzentrierte sich auf die Stadt Rom, wo "Konversionspolitik im großen Stile" gemacht wurde, und beleuchtete die Konversionen von Juden, Muslimen und Protestanten. Die Beiträge der Tagung zeigten, dass Konversionen in Rom eine zahlreiche soziale und kulturelle Gruppen betreffende Thematik waren und dass die Stadt Rom eine zentrale Rolle bei der Konversionspolitik spielte. Die Tagung behandelte auch die Frage, warum Menschen zu einem anderen Glauben konvertierten, und identifizierte sechs Faktorengruppen, die auf eine Konversionsentscheidung Einfluss nehmen konnten.
