He was ordained as a Rebbe by Rabbi Ze'ev Wolf of Cherniostra, who sent a messenger to inform him while on his way to make aliyah to Israel. At the time, Rebbe Menachem Mendel was extremely poor, but after receiving the ordination, he received a large sum of money and a blessing, fulfilling his words that "when the situation gets so bad, it is a sign that all will be good." Rabbi Ze'ev Wolf later wrote a letter to Rebbe Menachem Mendel from Israel, promising continuity of his dynasty, which has continued to this day.
