Summary

The Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway (L&YR) experimented with road transport in 1901 and by 1906 decided to purchase motor omnibuses for feeder services. In 1907, they commenced a service between Blundellsands and Thornton, and another between Chorley and Bamber Bridge, but both services were unsuccessful due to poor publicity, overloading, and mechanical problems. The services ceased by 1911, with the official reason being unprofitability. The L&YR's bus fleet consisted of two Milnes-Daimlers and one Commer, all of which were withdrawn by 1911.
